Ecosystems
The Earth’s ecosystems store about 2100 Gt of carbon, with about 80% of it on land. In addition to carbon storage, the Earth’s natural and managed landscapes provide local, regional, and global ecosystem services, from local cooling and moisture, to driving global water and nutrient cycles, to housing biodiversity that supports our food systems and economies.
With 4 billion hectares of natural forest ecosystems alone, there is a significant need for technology to rapidly assess and monitor the state of both natural and managed ecosystems – with accuracy and at scale. Because both vegetative structure and extent are critical to accurately estimate variables like carbon storage and species composition, three-dimensional measurements provide superior insight compared to optical imagery alone.
GeoOptics’ new 3D SAR Earth observation data products will provide users with high-resolution, precise, and frequent measurements of the earth’s vegetation without the limitations of optical data. Day or night, rain, shine, or heavy cloud cover, with observations as frequent as weekly, or even daily – our data and products will provide an accurate picture of forest and other terrestrial ecosystem characteristics with high accuracy, and at a fraction of current costs.
Become a partner
At GeoOptics, we believe our technology will change the game for data applications from carbon and biodiversity credit markets, to supply chain management and monitoring. But we don’t expect to solve these problems alone. We’re developing deep collaborations with scientists, land managers, and communities. If you’re interested in advancing the application of this technology and would like to become a data testing or product development partner, drop us a line at: info@geooptics.com
