In a prelude to Katrina, Hurricane Lili struck the coast of Louisiana (west of New Orleans) in October 2002. Although GPS-RO sampling at that time was extremely sparse, it happened that one relatively nearby occultation was obtained a day or so before landfall. The mid-point of the occultation (acquired about 4.6 hours before this photo was taken) relative to the eye is shown by the red dot.
