The test of any weather sensor is its impact on weather forecasts. Forecasts are produced by computer models of the physical processes involved in generating weather. To run a forecast the models must first be initialized with measurements of the current atmospheric state. The models attempt to capture myriad physical parameters and the intricate processes by which they evolve and interact.
